5 Gutter Cleaning Companies That Stand Out From the Rest
Plenty of people simply hate to clean their gutters. They don’t like climbing on ladders, scooping out grimy debris, and wasting a morning or afternoon. Thankfully, there are numerous companies that will happily handle this chore for a small fee.
Of course, these companies are competing against each other for business, so they have to find a way to stand out from the crowd. Here are five such businesses who called upon a little creativity to reach out to potential customers.
The name is weird enough, because nobody actually loves washing windows. But this Bay Area company, which also cleans gutters, shows its humorous side on its website. First, it lists items that might be found in gutters, including “Spring buds, autumn leaves, tennis balls, birds nests, socks, dead animals, toys – you name it, we’ve seen it!” And it also displays this funny-yet-adorable photo of two cats. Because even though no one loves washing windows, everyone loves cute cat pictures.
2. Men in Kilts
If you hire a gutter cleaner, chances are they’ll arrive in nondescript clothing or a generic uniform. But not the men of Men In Kilts. They’ll perform gutter cleaning or several other home maintenance functions for you not in jeans, shorts, or pants — but while wearing the traditional Scottish garb. (In case you’re wondering, they enforce a strict “No Peeking” policy.) There are four Men in Kilts franchises on the west coast of North America — one in Seattle and three in the Canadian province of British Columbia — as well as a fifth in Calgary, Canada.
Since gutter cleaning is a pretty standardized service, the most common way to separate your company from the pack is with creative advertising. To this end, Gary’s Gutter Services of Congers, New York chose not to hire an international rap star, but instead found a pudgy Caucasian guy to rap an expertly-written jingle in front of a camera. The result? Think “Sopranos meets Vanilla Ice.” Whether you laugh or cringe, you’ll probably remember the ad.
4. Gutter Boys
This video is only available online, but it could give you the funniest three minutes of your day. Gutter Boys in northeastern Ohio produced a commercial which has all the elements of a great story: a hero, a damsel in distress, a vexing problem, drama, and good triumphing over evil. As a bonus, it also features a full-body leaf suit, a caped crusader, superhero action, edgy camerawork, and Jedi fighting. It’s downright Oscar-worthy!
This company, which serves San Mateo and Santa Clara counties in California, has a name that’s just begging for a commercial that spoofs a certain 1986 motion picture. The three “gutter cleaners” in the TV spot could easily be mistaken for Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, and Bill Murray. And they eagerly demonstrate their “patented” gutter cleaning system, which involves colored “streams” of electricity fired from ground level.
